LEGISLATIVE BY-ELECTION 2012 FOR A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE NOBLES FOR THE ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF ‘EUA

The Acting Speaker of the Legislative Assembly on 18th July 2012 issued the Writ of Election for the election of one member to sit and vote in the Legislative Assembly as a Representative of the Nobles for the Electoral District of ‘Eua, following the revocation of Hon. Lasike.

This By-Election will be held on Thursday 02 August 2012 between the hours of 10:00am and 12:00noon at the following places:

  1. 1.Palace Office, Nuku’alofa
  2. 2.Governor’s Office, Neiafu, Vava’u
  3. 3.Governor’s Office, Pangai, Ha’apai
  4. 4.Office of the Government Representatives at ‘Ohonua, ‘Eua; Hihifo, Niuatoputapu and ‘Esia, Niuafo’ou.

In accordance with the Electoral (Elections of Representatives of the Nobles) Regulations 2010, the Tongatapu & ‘Eua Electoral Districts Nobles are as follow:

‘Ahome’e, Ata, Fielakepa, Fohe, Kalaniuvalu, Lasike, Lavaka, Ma’afu, Nuku, Tu’ivakano, Tungi, Vaea, Vaha’i, Ve’ehala, Ramsay Robertson Dalgety (Life Peer), Tevita Poasi Tupou (Life Peer).

Furthermore, Lord Sevele (Life Peer) has also declared that he will vote for the Electoral District of Tongatapu & ‘Eua as stipulated by the same Regulations Section 2(2)

“Any person appointed by His Majesty as a Life Peer under clause 44 of the Constitution, and having the same rights and benefits of a Noble, may vote as a Noble for an Electoral District, but shall not stand as a candidate, and shall declare the Electoral District they will vote for to the Supervisor of Elections, and shall maintain it.”
