Reading the 2025 result
Every candidate formally stood as an independent. The table therefore works best as a constituency record, rather than a national party scoreboard. Ten sitting people’s representatives were returned and seven seats changed hands. Fane Fotu Fituafe, elected in Tongatapu 6, was the only woman to win a seat in the 2025 general election.
The winning shares also show why a seat-by-seat view matters. Some representatives crossed 60 or 70 per cent, while others won crowded contests with less than half of the formal vote. Both are valid victories under first past the post, but they describe different local races.
What happened next
The newly elected Assembly met in December. Members chose Lord Fakafanua as prime minister, illustrating the second stage of Tonga’s system: voters choose their local representative, while the members of Parliament choose the head of government.
The election table remains a record of polling day. Cabinet posts, parliamentary offices and vacancies are later developments and should be checked against a dated parliamentary source.
